[EN. From the Herd] In many cultures – including Ancient Egypt, among the Greeks and Celts, and in world religions – the lamb or sheep is regarded as a significant symbol; recurring attributes include protection, innocence, life and peace. In Christianity, the lamb is closely associated with Jesus and the Resurrection. In this ongoing photographic project comprising around 40 black-and-white photographs, I accompany a shepherdess who breeds Ouessant sheep in the southern Black Forest, the smallest breed of sheep in the world, originally from the Breton island of the same name, and juxtapose the documentation of her work with images that explore both the landscape throughout the annual cycle, as well as the multifaceted Christian role of the lamb/sheep and its traces and representations found in local sacred spaces.
